Accessibility

This site is for anybody looking for help, so it has to work for everybody. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This page says what we have checked, and what we know is not right yet.

What you can change

The accessibility button on every page lets you turn on high contrast, make the text smaller or larger (four sizes), and switch on easier reading. Your choices are kept in your own browser, so they stay as you move between pages. Your browser's own zoom and text settings work too.

What we have checked

  • Every page, in both the light and the dark theme, was checked with an automated WCAG 2.2 A and AA test (axe) in July 2026.
  • Every pairing of text and background colour is checked by our own test, in both themes, because the automated test cannot see text on a gradient. It last passed on 3 November 2026.
  • Each page starts with a “Skip to content” link for keyboard and screen-reader users.
  • Searching by postcode works without JavaScript.

What we know is not right yet

  • We have not tested the site with a screen reader such as VoiceOver or NVDA. The pages are built so that one can announce changes, but nobody has listened to check.
