Baby banks give out clothes, nappies, cots and equipment for children, free. Their map covers the whole UK. Most take referrals from a midwife, health visitor or support worker, but many will talk to you directly.

Help towards short-term living expenses or household items if you are in an extreme situation or a crisis. It is not always money you keep: depending on your circumstances you may be offered an interest-free loan or a grant you would not have to pay back, so ask which you have been awarded. A loan is recovered by deduction from your benefit, or by Direct Debit if you get Universal Credit.
